What is Community CARES?

  • A space that promotes survivor healing through trauma-informed healing programming including use of the arts, mind/body connection and community building. 
  • This community is for survivors, victims, allies and others impacted by sexual violence.
  • This space is inclusive and all identities are welcome and celebrated.
  • A space that strives to help heal members of the Virginia Tech student community of allies, survivors, victims, and others affected by sexual violence and harm through trauma informed supportive healing programing, including education, arts, mind/body, community building activities.  This space is inclusive regardless of identity; everyone is accepted and celebrated.

What does Community CARES do?

  • Organizes sexual violence survivor events to raise awareness around sexual violence and provide opportunities to build healing in the community.
  • Offers workshops on how to Support Survivors.
  • Provides trauma-informed workshops and programs to increase resiliency that builds a healing and supportive community for victims, survivors, friends, and allies.
  • Ensures all are welcome, believed, and know they are not alone.

Currently Accepting New Members

CARES Program and Cook Counseling Center are accepting new members for support group for students who have experienced sexual trauma.

  • Fall 2024 Semester
  • Weekly meetings on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • First meeting is on September 11
  • Goals and Objectives:
    • Bringing people together to assist them on their healing journey.
    • Helping people realize that they are not alone and can heal together.
    • Validating emotions and experiences.
