Christine Dennis Smith
Christine (she/her/hers) provides leadership to the CARES Program and provides advocacy and support to students, faculty and staff who have been impacted by sexual violence and interpersonal violence. Christine along with other CARES staff are available to provide trauma informed care, crisis intervention, advocacy based counseling, information and referral, and accompaniment to students who are meeting with law enforcement, university Title IX meetings, and court proceedings. Christine is also available to do educational presentations and trainings to student, faculty, and staff groups.
Christine initially began her work at Virginia Tech at the Women’s Center in 2001 providing support and advocacy services for survivors and offering outreach and education to the campus community regarding gender-based violence. She has extensive experience working with survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment.
Christine has a Master's in Social Work (M.S.W.) and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W). She is a long time Hokie and received her B.S. in psychology from Virginia Tech.
